Language Learning France: A History of Immersion

While in Brittany, students do short internships with local people to see what life is really like in their host community. In the past, students have worked at the fish market, the bakery, the florist, and the tourist office, and have helped out in cafes, on farms, and with local kids camps. One of the language lessons we do in preparation for these internships focuses on crutch words- words the French use when they don’t know the word for something. In the long run, you’ll be much better of saying “ces choses” or “ce truc” than substituting the word in English.
