  • Education: Boston College, B.A., Psychology, Boston College, Ph.D, Social Work (candidate).

Amy first fell in love with the social sciences as a Psychology major at Boston College where she spent her college years pursuing children’s issues and child development through her coursework.  She was Assistant Program Director for a youth mentoring program in South Boston, a member of student government, and an avid BC football fan.   From there, she went on to get her Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania where Amy combined her studies with work at Philadelphia area social service organizations providing support for undeserved youth and extensive research into the areas of community programming and development.  As a social worker, Amy focuses on the child welfare system. She has not only worked with youth in the public school systems but also as an advocate for children and family related policies. She has participated in a variety of research projects including interviewing a diverse array of religious leaders and their impact in their urban communities, surveying active and ex gang members, and holding focus groups for social workers that aim to find adoptive homes for foster children.  Amy also has done community service work ranging to building homes in Tijuana, Mexico to mentoring youth in Boston. She is currently working on her PhD in Social Work at Boston College focusing on both the child welfare and juvenile delinquency systems. She has spent one summer with Excel at Amherst College.
