Ben graduated with a double major in East Asian Studies and French Literature and Translation from McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Originally from Upstate New York, he got the travel bug after a trip to Brazil when he was 15 years old to visit friends from a previous summer program. After graduating from high school, he was a Rotary International exchange student in rural France. Since then, he has traveled extensively on four continents and lived on three. Since 2009 he has called Beijing home, first as a student and then as a language specialist at ORBIS International, a non-profit seeking to eradicate curable blindness. Ben is fluent in French and Mandarin and enjoys swimming, volleyball and skiing. He has led Excel China.
