After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, Bill joined the Peace Corps. He was placed in the rural village of Kinampanda, Tanzania where he taught biology and chemistry to high school students. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, he also wrote several grants to implement both health and environmental programs in villages outside of Singida, Tanzania, helped to lead seminars concerning HIV/AIDS education and coordinated a health conference for high schools in the surrounding villages.  After completing his Peace Corps service, Bill moved to New York City and completed a Masters in Science Education while teaching science in a 6-12 public secondary school in the Bronx. Currently he is teaching biochemistry at a public high school in Lower Manhattan, where he focuses on community service and mentoring. In 2009, Bill received a Fund For Teacher’s Grant to do HIV/AIDS research in India. He used this opportunity to draw connections between the epidemic in India and East Africa. In 2011, Bill led a group of high school students to China, visiting Beijing and Xi’an and working at a local Chinese orphanage as part of a large community service project. He has been on every continent with the exception of Antarctica and promotes the idea of travel among his students, stressing its importance for personal growth and cultural education. He enjoys photography and running. Bill is proficient in KiSwahili. He has led Community Service Tanzania.
