- Education: Davidson College, B.A., cum laude, Spanish.
Corey’s passion for Latin America began 8 years ago on a trip to Costa Rica and has since led her to unexpected and exciting places. Looking to combine her love of the region with a future career in medicine, Corey has worked with physicians from Tufts University Medical School in a rural clinic in Nicaragua, volunteered at a home for disabled children in Cusco, Peru, and does ongoing translation work in clinics and hospitals in North Carolina. As a sophomore, Corey helped found LEAD – Latina Empowerment, Achievement and Development – helping Latina women develop their resume and interview skills and instilling them with the confidence to join the workforce. She also enjoys sharing her passion for this community with others, and taught Spanish classes to homeschooled students of all ages during her junior year at Davidson. Corey’s interest in Spanish also extends to the literary realm, with her senior honors thesis on contemporary Latin American exile poetry. Most recently, she has published research on pediatric medical error education. Corey is from Massachusetts and enjoys running, hiking, playing outdoors and pretending to be a vegetarian chef. She speaks Spanish and is studying Portuguese. Corey has led Community Service Costa Rica.
