Evan first discovered his love of travel during a high school trip to Costa Rica. As an undergraduate, he spent a semester in the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam, focusing is studies on the differences between Dutch and American social policy. Following his semester there, Evan traveled throughout Europe visiting Germany, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. He has worked with middle and high school students as a counselor at Mt. Hood Snowboard Camp, and mentored undergrads as a teaching assistant in the Psychology Department at the University of Vermont. After graduation, Evan spent a year traveling in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. While there, he volunteered in the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest, helping to construct an eco-village and to accelerate conservation efforts in the area. He also lived and worked with a fishing family, managed the kitchen at a hostel on the coast, taught English to primary school students, and discovered a passion for surfing. Evan led a Community Service Costa Rica program for Putney in the summer of 2010. Following the program he extended his stay to travel and work in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. Evan is fluent in Spanish. He has led Community Service Costa Rica and Community Service Peru.
