Haley completed a double major in Spanish and Anthropology at Skidmore College, where she graduated magna cum laude, received the Sonja P. Karsen award for excellence in Spanish, and was inducted in the Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi, and Periclean honors societies. She spent her junior year studying at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and has spent the last eight summers in Spain working for Excel Madrid/Barcelona. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her dissertation, focusing on literary journalism in Spain, combines literary analysis with theories drawn from cultural and media studies. While at UC Santa Barbara, Haley has also taught Spanish language and culture courses and studied language pedagogy. She has taught on the Excel programs for seven years.
