While at Georgetown, Laura’s studied the role that culture plays in various forms of government and in the creation of national identity. In pursuit of her academic interests, Laura studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal during her junior year of college. While in Senegal, Laura taught English at a community center, interned at a women’s right NGO, and traveled extensively throughout the country. During her college years, Laura served as a Senior Editor of The Hoya, the main campus newspaper, and interned for former Senator Russ Feingold, at Washington Post Newsweek Interactive, and at ABC News. Following graduation, Laura lived in Hong Kong as a Princeton in Asia fellow teaching English at Shue Yan University and writing for Time Out Hong Kong Magazine. Laura is currently working as a consultant in West Africa where she is writing a report on poverty reduction and the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals for the Economic Community of West African States with an additional focus of assessing and showcasing investment opportunities in the transport sector for the Federal Ministry of Transport of Nigeria. Laura is fluent in French and speaks conversational Mandarin and Wolof. 2011 was Laura’s third summer with Putney. She has led Community Service Senegal, Language Learning France, and Cultural Exploration Switzerland, Italy, France, and Holland.
