During college, she participated in an alternative spring break program to build houses in Costa Rica and later worked for an international development bank in Washington D.C. She then took on a project for the Ecuadorian government, traveling around the Amazon rainforest and the Pacific coast, addressing issues of development and poverty alleviation. During her Master’s degree studies, Maka discovered a passion for the vast array of historically and culturally transmitted ideas, languages, and ways of life. Maka will start a Ph.D. program in Anthropology in London this upcoming academic year. She is fluent in Spanish, English and French and is studying Catalan. Maka has led Community Service Ecuador.
