Mike has taught and traveled extensively in Israel, Europe, and Asia, and co-led Putney’s Global Action China trips in 2008 and 2009.  Before joining the Putney team, he served in the Peace Corps in China. He was stationed in Guizhou, China’s poorest province, where he taught classes in English and American culture. Mike was also on the Guizhou Provincial basketball team, earning the nickname “Shaq”" despite being only 5’11”.  A memoir of his experiences–entitled Kosher Chinese–was published by Henry Holt this summer to much acclaim.  He currently teaches history at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn, and is helping to create the curriculum for the global Avenues School, set to open in 2012.  He is highly proficient in Mandarin. Michael has directed Excel China and the Yale University portion of our Global Action programs in India, Cambodia, and Rwanda.
