Growing up in a bilingual Spanish-English home, Raquel has always loved languages. In high school, she studied Spanish, French, Latin and Ancient Greek. During college, her studies focused on the literature and civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome. She interned on an archaeological dig in Greece, and wrote her senior thesis on freedom of speech during the Athenian democracy. She fell in love with Spain on trips to visit family in Asturias and Galicia, and finally became a citizen of Spain last year. In the fall, Raquel will be entering a one-year Master’s program in Classics at Oxford University on a Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship. She has led Excel Madrid/Barcelona.
