Soriya was born on a refugee camp in Thailand which was set up for Cambodians escaping the genocide taking place during Pol Pot’s destructive campaign in Cambodia. The difficulties and obstacles he experienced at an early age have formed the basis of his desire to mentor students, and Soriya has dedicated his time to supporting academic and humanitarian organizations that work with an array of young immigrants residing in America. During his studies in Penn State University Soriya was recognized for his volunteer work with organizations such as The Salvation Army, The Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and The Philadelphia Food Bank, and received The Congressional Award of bronze, silver and gold medals. In 2010, Soriya traveled to Cambodia in support of a charity project to restore a temple in a small village near Battambang. Continuing his dedication to service, Soriya is now finishing the academic year working closely with the government of Georgia in Eastern Europe, where he is restructuring the English department in several public schools and developing programs for youth. Soriya is fluent in Khmer. He has led Global Awareness in Action Cambodia.
