Growing up next to the beach on the culturally diverse Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, Sara traveled to different continents, which allowed her to recognize different world views. Studying geography and development planning in a master’s program became a base to further work both in international development and sustainable tourism. She spent more than an accumulated year in the field working with students and young professionals in different education programs, including the Peace Corps and Smithsonian Student Travel. Sara has also been developing her skills in Climate Change Action for the Global South through mostly remote consultancy work. In 2019, she moved to Spain to pursue a master’s and decided to stay and travel slowly through the country, which is now her second home. The COVID-19 pandemic and all its remoteness brought an opportunity for self-reflection and to realize how greatly she missed working with students and everything there is to learn from local communities. She returns this year to lead the Putney Costa Rica program.
