While at Drexel University, Mackenzie focused on global studies, an interdisciplinary field that enabled her to explore diverse topics abroad in Guatemala, Spain, and Equatorial Guinea. After completing her undergraduate degree, her love for Spanish drew her back to Madrid, where she taught English in a bilingual primary school through the Spanish Ministry of Education. Mackenzie’s thirst for adventure led her to spend seven months in a small Mayan village nestled in the Guatemalan highlands. During her time there, she managed an eco-hostel and volunteered as an educator, teaching English to female staff members of a local nonprofit. Her passion for travel and education brought her back to Equatorial Guinea, where she spent two years working for Drexel University Study Abroad as the Resident Director of the Biodiversity on Bioko Island program. After years of living overseas, she returned to the East Coast to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine and discovered her love for long distance treks. She has since completed thru-hikes of the Long Trail and Colorado Trail. Mackenzie now works full-time at the Putney Barn as a program director. In addition to traveling and spending time in the great outdoors, she enjoys dancing, reading, and yoga. Mackenzie is fluent in Spanish and has led Putney programs in Costa Rica, Vermont, Hawaii, Tanzania, and Argentina.
