Luca Bottone
Luca pursued his bachelor’s degree in Modern European Languages, Cultures, and Literatures at the University of Naples Federico II. During his time there, he delved into various fields including linguistics, literature, sociolinguistics, modern language teaching methods, and philology. For nearly two years, Luca lived in the United States, where he served as a Cultural Representative. During this period, he immersed himself in Italian wine culture and even tried his hand at skydiving. It was during this experience that he discovered his passion for teaching Italian to foreigners. In addition to his academic pursuits, Luca actively participated in European projects centered around ecology, civic engagement, and interculturalism. These endeavors took him to Poland, the UK, and Spain, enriching his understanding of diverse cultures. As he worked on his final dissertation on the didactics of modern languages, Luca embarked on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. Currently, Luca is focusing on his final thesis, which explores the development of a new Italian certification aimed at facilitating inmate access to the university system. Scheduled for graduation in July, Luca is pursuing advanced studies in Didactics of Italian for Foreigners at the University for Foreigners of Siena. Outside academia, Luca serves as an ESL tutor, inspiring students to embrace languages and multiculturalism. He recently completed an internship in a prison, where he taught Italian and assisted inmates in attaining the B1 level of proficiency. Following this, Luca spent time in Strasbourg, working on his thesis and volunteering at the European Parliament. Proficient in French and Spanish, with a strong command of English and a fondness for the Neapolitan dialect, Luca embodies a passion for language and cultural exchange. This is his third summer teaching on Putney’s program in Siena.
