While at San Francisco State University, Yuómi worked in a variety of research labs, analyzing fruit flies returned from outer space and delving into the molecular biology of forensic genetics tools used by the FBI. His research leverages the latest tools in computer science, and he has imparted his expertised to  university students nationwide as a mentor through an 8-week virtual coding bootcamp. Yuómi’s most recent employment was with Verily, a biotech company. There, he worked on the Debug Project, rearing functionally sterile mosquitoes to fight invasive mosquito populations and mosquito-borne diseases in humans and animals. However, for the last three months, he has been traveling through Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. This fall, he plans to apply to Ph.D. programs in bioengineering, focusing on developing technologies for carbon sequestration. Yuómi  is a native Spanish speaker and has roots in Mexico and Peru.
