Lis contributes her love of travel to her mother, whose adventurous spirit was infectious. As a child, she would climb onto her mother’s back, and they would travel all over Panama. Lis has always been curious about the world, so it’s no surprise that she would go on to study broadcast journalism and film post-production. While attending university she concentrated on human interest stories, and the many natural disasters that impacted the Middle Tennessee region during her time there. For the past eight years Lis has focused the majority of her work throughout Central and South America, primarily in Panama, documenting the cultural and social issues affecting these areas, and their disappearing traditions and values. She has also contributed to many humanitarian relief efforts, and worked with numerous non-governmental organizations such as Nutre Hogar, the American Red Cross, Cafe de la Sonrisas, and the Tio Antonio Social Center, among others. Currently, Lis is a photojournalist represented by ZUMA Press, with recent publications in People magazine. She also founded the Nashville chapter of Travel Massive, is an educator, and coordinates the educational photographic expeditions at Nossi College Of Art in Nashville. Most recently, Lis led a college expedition in the Pacific Northwest in late April. She teaches courses in photojournalism, travel photography, and mass communications. Fluent in Spanish, Lis has previously led student travel programs in Costa Rica, Portugal and Spain, as well as a photography-focused program in Yellowstone.
