Avery Stern
A Philly native, Avery was a city kid with a wilderness spirit. From the beaches of Mexico to Egyptian deserts and New Zealand’s Southern Alps, she built a deep connection to the natural world. After a solo trip around Europe and North Africa, she studied French language and literature in Talloires, making time to hike the Alps during her free time. After college, she led biking and backpacking trips throughout the Green and White Mountains, reinforcing her love of experiential learning as well as her fondness for New England. A former Middle and High-School English teacher and now an adjunct professor at the local community college, Avery serves on both the Putney hiring and directing team, and currently heads our Middle School programs in France, Holland, and Hawai’i. When she’s not on her bicycle, you’ll find her painting, reading, or thrifting.
