A Philly native, Avery was a city kid with an adventurous wilderness spirit. From the beaches of Mexico to Egyption deserts and New Zealand’s Southern Alps, she built a deep connection to the natural world. After a solo trip around Europe and North Africa, she went on to study French language and literature in Talloires, making time to hike the French Alps during her free time. After college, she led biking backpacking trips throughout the Green and White Mountains, reinforcing her love of environmentalism and experiential learning. Avery joined the Putney hiring team after eight years of teaching middle and high school literature and climate change. She speaks French and Spanish and has led student trips throughout Europe, Central America, and South America. When she’s not on her bicycle, you’ll find her painting, reading, or thrifting.
