While studying at the University of Montana, Western, Christine began leading summer expeditions through Alaska’s Inside Passage and the Denali region. Following that, she worked as a field biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey collecting data on the nesting requirements of threatened and endangered Hawaiian birds. After returning east to serve as director for Medomak Retreat Center in Midcoast Maine, Christine began her M.S. at Antioch University New England. She spent two years in Belize developing a system for evaluating ecosystem services provision on small farms through a partnership with Sustainable Harvest International and The Center for Tropical Ecology and Conservation. After accepting a science teaching position at Vermont Academy, Christine began leading student programs to Belize, Chile, and Ecuador emphasizing sustainability, service learning, and social entrepreneurship. She is currently the Director of Place-Based Learning and Environmental Studies at Vermont Academy. She and her students have participated in many climate action events including the Vermont Youth Climate Summit and the Vermont Youth Climate Congress. This will be Christine’s third year as a member of the Putney Pre-College leadership team.
