While at Ursinus, Josh focused on English literature and creative writing, and spent a semester in Florence studying Renaissance art history. After graduating he moved to New York City, where he began writing short plays, performing improv, and working as a copywriter and after-school tutor. Josh also briefly lived in Berlin, Germany, where he created a public storytelling event that continues to host monthly programming in Berlin, Brooklyn, and Oakland. After Berlin, he spent four months backpacking across Europe and Southeast Asia. Josh now works as a writing coach and workshop leader, working with writers of all experience levels to help them practice their skills and find a community of fellow writers. He has led Putney programs in Ireland, Italy, and Greece.
