While attending Karatu Lutheran Vocational Training College, Van pursued courses in English, French, and tour guiding. During this time, he acquired skills in leading clients, understanding wildlife species’ habits, promoting environmental conservation, and honing communication skills. Since 2015, he has been a teacher at Karatu Lutheran VTC, instructing in tour guiding, English, and life skills, aiming to assist and empower fellow young men who are striving to cross an employment bridge through vocational training. In 2017, Van joined Rustic Pathways, a student travel company, as a program leader. He has been involved in various programs across Tanzania, including African wildlife conservation in Kigoma (focused on chimpanzee conservation), marine conservation in Tanga and Zanzibar, as well as cultural and educational exchange programs in the Arusha, Kilimanjaro, and Musoma regions.
