Sammy Cope
While at the University of Ottawa, Sammy focused on kinesiology before pursuing education at York University, where she intertwined her passion for teaching with her understanding of physical activity. She helped create a youth basketball team in her community, fostering a love for sports and community engagement. Her passion for travel was ignited during her unconventional upbringing, living in a camper van and exploring Europe at a young age. Throughout her studies, Sammy’s summers were spent traversing Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, further fueling her adventurous spirit. Sammy recently led students on a transformative trip to Tanzania, where they summited Mount Kilimanjaro. Now a high school teacher in Toronto, Sammy champions inclusive education, prioritizing students’ backgrounds, cultures, and interests in their learning journey. Fluent in English and proficient in Swahili, she seeks to deepen her language skills through immersive experiences. This fall, Sammy is excited to return to teaching, aiming to spearhead an international school trip, further broadening her students’ horizons.
