While at Miami University, Olivia focused on storytelling in conservation, with special interests in community-based conservation, primate behavior, and human-wildlife conflict. She explored how narrative can deepen public engagement with science and strengthen ethical wildlife stewardship. After graduate school, Olivia worked with great apes at the Oklahoma City Zoo, where one of her proudest accomplishments was assisting in routine cardiac ultrasounds on a silverback gorilla named Bo. Olivia traveled to Borneo to study primate conservation, working alongside local researchers on orangutan behavior, habitat, and community-based conservation efforts in Sabah’s rainforests. Besides her work with primates, she has spent time in Mongolia studying steppe ecology and civic media. Presently, Olivia is a cultural ambassador and language assistant for the Ministry of Education in Spain. Besides conservation, education, and travel, Olivia enjoys creative writing and hopes to continue exploring new stories wherever life takes her. This fall, she will be publishing her second novel, Cleo and the Death of the Five Realms, in her fantasy series. Olivia has previously led Putney’s Career Belize program.
