Scott Frankland
Scott’s academic work reflects his interdisciplinary interest in the relationship between biology, cognition, and human systems. Alongside his scientific studies, Scott trained and worked as a chef specializing in Italian and French cuisines, an experience that deepened his engagement with food not merely as craft, but as a cultural and material practice shaped by agricultural processes. After relocating to Siena, he became actively involved with organic farms and vineyards throughout Tuscany. Through this work, Scott has developed a practical understanding of regional agricultural systems and the ecological foundations that sustain Italy’s culinary traditions. His experiences have informed a broader appreciation of the biological, social, and economic dimensions of food production, as well as its central role in long-term sustainability and community resilience. He currently works as a teacher in Siena, Italy. Outside the classroom, he maintains a strong commitment to sport and discipline, having completed multiple marathons and competed in a professional Thai boxing match in Thailand.
