John Ralston
While at Parsons, John studied contemporary art and was actively engaged in making photographs and videos that investigated storytelling. His visual work continues to explore many themes including sustainability, community, and public versus private space. Many years working as an artists’ assistant has allowed him to learn skills in carpentry, ceramics, textiles, and instrument making, among many others, which have inspired his art practice extensively. John finds travel to be the best way to foster creativity through meeting people and exploring landscapes along the way. He currently directs our Photography Workshops in New York City and Yellowstone as well as programs in the Canadian Arctic, Croatia & Slovenia, Germany & Sweden, and the Engineering and Technology program at MIT. An avid marathon runner, hiker, and all-around outdoor enthusiast, John’s love for his home in southern Vermont, and the wildlife corridor that is his backyard, also finds him serving on the board of the local Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association land conservancy.
