While in college at UGA, Catherine was very active in student programming, particularly with the cinema division, bringing international and art films for screening at the campus theater in Athens. After college, she moved to New York and worked in the library at Columbia University while taking advanced classes in Spanish culture. Following a semester studying at the University of Alcalá in Spain, she enrolled in the PhD program at Stony Brook University and completed her doctoral dissertation on Spanish literature and film. Catherine is now a Principal Lecturer at the University of Georgia, where she is an advocate and mentor for active learning pedagogy and student-centered teaching. She has near-native fluency in Spanish and has some conversational ability in French and Portuguese. Catherine has traveled and worked throughout Spain’s diverse and unique regions, and she is always inspired to share her local knowledge and experience with students! This fall, she will be returning to UGA and will continue her work as faculty mentor for an annual Spanish Short Film Festival.
