After finishing their undergraduate work in East Asian Languages and Cultures, DeVante moved to China to teach at Beijing Normal University for a few years. During that time, they traveled extensively across East Asia, meeting with martial artists and healers who taught them indigenous pathways toward healing and inner peace. DeVante later returned to the U.S. to pursue a degree in Clinical Psychology, examining how spiritual practice can be a healing intervention for queer people of color. They then received offers to travel the world to perform and host healing workshops that combine Traditional Chinese Medicine, dance, psychology, and popular culture. Currently, DeVante is a monk working toward a PhD that explores how different cultures engage in ritual dance practices. They are fluent in Mandarin and proficient in Japanese and Spanish.
