Brian Mulcahey
While at the University of Vermont, Brian focused on ecology and evolution, with an emphasis on insect behavior and morphology. Since graduating, he has spent his summers conducting avian research in the Western Prairies, the Peruvian Amazon, and the Yucatan. A notable accomplishment during this time was helping develop community-driven conservation initiatives that integrated indigenous ecological knowledge with modern scientific approaches. For most of the year, Brian works as a high school science teacher, helping to train the next generation of conservationists and scientists. In 2023, he received the National Science Teacher Association’s Robert E. Yager Award for Excellence in Teaching. His first children’s book, inspired by his adventures, The Feather Necklace, hit bookstore shelves in August 2023. Although a huge bird nerd, he also loves marine ecology. Brian earned his Divemaster and Dive Guide certifications in June 2024 and enjoys guiding new divers through the best dive spots in Massachusetts. He lives in Boston with his wife and daughter.
