Josh (Josias) Osias
While at UC Davis, Josias focused on environmental sciences and minored in oceanography. He has always been passionate about protecting the ocean, and his time at UC Davis afforded him opportunities to study in Australia along the Great Barrier Reef and the rocky coasts of Bodega Bay, California. After graduation, Josias returned to his hometown of San Diego and began his career in outdoor education and guiding. Sharing his passion for conservation and the ocean has allowed him to connect with students in the field. After working outdoors for nine years, Josias decided to pursue the next step in his career and attended the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. There, he focused on developing new skills in communications and media with the intent of creating educational videos about the ocean. His goal is to share the wonders of the marine environment to all students, particularly those who may not have the opportunity to experience it firsthand. Josh believes that understanding and exploring the ocean leads to efforts in protecting our planet. Most recently, he has been able to travel and film in Mexico, Ecuador, Belize, Costa Rica. Josias works with corporate groups in customized team building activities and adventures, and also works as a naturalist on a major cruise line. Proficient in Spanish, Josias has previously led Putney and Smithsonian programs in Belize, France, Holland, and Costa Rica. This fall, he will resume outdoor guiding and educating others.
