During Claire’s educational and professional journey she has been able to study science in many different locations around the United States. Most of her undergraduate research at Rhodes College was completed at the Memphis Zoo studying animal behavior of African elephants and studying anthropogenic impacts on tributaries of the Mississippi River. After completing her bachelor’s, she spent a year in Texas, working at a National Recreation Area to prevent the introduction of aquatic invasive species. After the year in Texas was complete, she completed a master’s degree in marine science at The University of Southern Mississippi. While pursuing her master’s, Claire focused on understanding fluxes in the carbon cycle off the coast of Louisiana. She spent a total of 30 days living at sea collecting and analyzing data from ocean buoys, CTDs, and other seagoing equipment. Claire now works as a high school physics teacher in Orlando. She teaches three levels of physics classes and is the robotics club sponsor. Claire hopes to instill a love for exploration and science in all of her students.
