While at the University of Guelph, Julia traveled across the Canadian High Arctic to Greenland, an experience that inspired her final-year research on Arctic climate change. Alongside her studies, she volunteered more than 1,200 hours as a medical first responder and worked as an emergency services dispatcher. After graduating, Julia worked as a documentary film researcher on wildlife series for BBC Scotland and the Smithsonian Channel. She has guided canoeing, kayaking, and backpacking trips across Ontario and British Columbia, and has led student travel programs in Iceland, the Canadian Arctic, Greece, Italy, and the Faroe Islands. Julia now works as a Senior Research Assistant at Brown University’s People, Place, & Health Collective, supporting community-based public health research addressing the overdose crisis. She is proficient in French and is currently learning Spanish.
