The Summit Journey: Notes from Kilimanjaro

Exploration Kilimanjaro leaders share the incredible journey of their team’s summit day, from a cold climb to the unforgettable moment they reached the top of Kilimanjaro, standing 19,341 feet above sea level.

We all cozied up for a few hours in our tent beds before having a very cold 11pm wake up. We bundled up, had some tea and coffee, and began our summit hike. It was long, it was steep, it was absolutely freezing cold. But our team crushed it!

We were rewarded with the most magical sunrise shortly before we got to the top.

When reached the famous Kilimanjaro Summit sign, our crew laughed, cried, jumped up and down.

It was a huge challenge and success for all. We are so grateful to have made it!

Now off to nap, eat a huge lunch, and move to our lower elevation camp for our last night on the mountain.

Thank you KILIMANJARO!
