Career Yellowstone leaders share highlights from a day spent photographing Yellowstone’s iconic geothermal pools and enjoying a fun evening in nearby Cooke City.Â
Today we had another early morning expedition into Yellowstone National Park! Our drive started out with an early morning sunrise over Lamar Valley onward to our destination, Geyser Basin, home to the most geothermal areas in the region.

We got an introduction to the area from our program expert, Drew Rush, before exploring and photographing the various geysers, cones, mud pots, and fumerols along the boardwalk. The geothermal pools have such beautiful colors and shapes in the earth. We were amazed to see the variety!

Following our walk, we then had our (second) breakfast at The Old Faithful Lodge complete with French toast, bacon, and eggs. After breakfast we then headed back to Silver Gate Montana to our hotel to rest and edit photos. We even got to play some games in the yard before we headed to dinner in Cooke City.

After a delicious dinner, we bopped around the small town, doing a photo scavenger hunt, and enjoyed some ice cream. We then settled in to watch the town put on an awesome Fourth of July celebration complete with fireworks!
