Waterfall, Sheep, & Black Sand Beach: Notes from Iceland

Hear tell of the tale of three Putney students, who bravely weathered the elements on their way to the land of the vikings during our Career Iceland program.

Our gloriously gorgeous and delicious adventure:

As always, breakfast was at 8:30 a.m. and was yummy in our tummies. Afterwards, we had our morning meeting, where we played games and had an hour to work on our independent projects.

When our new bus arrived we filed in to go explore a waterfall. It was super-duper windy and rainy and we all quickly became one with the weather (aka got pretty wet).

Next, we went to a small town for lunch. Some explored and hiked while others dried off in a cozy cafe.

Then, we went to Helgafell, where the Nordic Gods lived. We all had to hike up in silence without being able to look behind us. Once at the top, we had to look east and be pure of soul to be able to make three wishes come true. BUT if we even spoke a WORD of our wishes, we were told, they would NEVER come true!!!!! The wind was blowing so hard towards us that, as we made our wishes, it felt like we were heard.

Finally, we visited a black sand beach. It consisted of lots of smooth black stones and very little sand. The waves were ferocious and mighty as they crashed onto the rocks. We all got to mosey around the beach enjoying the blue waves and eroded rocks before we loaded back onto the bus. Some of us tried to pick up ancient Viking stones that were, once upon a time, used to select the best and strongest fishermen!
