While at the University of Florida, Alex focused on documentary storytelling and global photojournalism. After graduating, she worked internationally as a freelance photojournalist and educator across Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, and North America, documenting nonprofit and humanitarian efforts. Alex later spent several years building a body of work across the Middle East, Asia, and Central America. Her work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Miami Herald, Tampa Bay Times, and NBC. Alex then went on to earn her master’s at UNC Chapel Hill as a Roy H. Park Fellow, where she focused on refugee and immigration stories. She now works as a senior multimedia producer at Duke University, helping to tell impactful stories through visual media, while also teaching Intro to Photojournalism at UNC Chapel Hill and developing professional workshops for photographers through the photo collective Diversify Photo. Alex previously led Putney’s Service Puerto Rico program.
